Een Jane Austen jubileumjaar kan natuurlijk niet zonder nieuwe Austen-biografieën. De eerste van dit jaar is die van historica Lucy Worsley – bekend van tv – en heet Jane Austen at Home. Aanstaande zaterdag, 27 mei, wordt om 22.00 uur op BBC2 het bijbehorende tv-programma ‘Jane Austen: Behind Closed Doors’ uitgezonden.
In haar boek en tv-programma neemt Worsley je mee naar de huizen waar Jane Austen woonde, waar ze tijdelijk verbleef of op bezoek ging en onderzoekt ze in hoeverre deze locaties van invloed zijn geweest op Austens werk.
Bekende plekken
Steventon, Godmersham Park, Chawton House, Southampton: voor veel Austen-liefhebbers zijn het bekende plekken. Worsley onderzoekt in Jane Austen at Home de kamers, ruimtes en eigendommen die belangrijk waren voor Austen, en de verschillende manieren waarop Austen huizen in haar werk gebruikte.

On the eve of the two hundredth anniversary of Jane Austen’s death, take a trip back to her world and the many places she lived as historian Lucy Worsley visits Austen’s childhood home, her schools, her holiday accommodations, the houses – both grand and small – of the relations upon whom she was dependent, and the home she shared with her mother and sister towards the end of her life.

Op BBC2 is aanstaande zaterdag het programma ‘Jane Austen: Behind Closed Doors’ te zien, waarin Lucy Worsley verschillende huizen bezoekt waar Jane Austen heeft gewoond. Het programma begint om 22.00 uur Nederlandse tijd (21.00 uur Engelse tijd).
